Our mission

General

The BESF is committed to facilitating, encouraging and monitoring the development and practice of esports in Belgium. Our work is structured around 5 pillars:

Competition & National Teams

Competition & National Teams

It is one of our prime missions to enable our national teams to compete against other national teams in international competitions.

In order to achieve this mission, the Competition & National Teams pillar engages in the following activities:

  • Organize qualifiers to recruit the best athletes to represent our country in international competitions.
  • Host national team trainings and coordinate the participation of our national teams in international competitions.
  • Organize events to promote our national teams and esports in Belgium in general.
Ethics & Integrity

Ethics & Integrity

Integrity in terms of fair play, community respect and regulatory compliance is an important aspect of the BESF’s mission to promote esports in Belgium and for the sustainability of esports in general.

In order to achieve this mission, the Ethics & Integrity pillar engages in the following activities:

  • Assess the existing integrity landscape, including the evaluation of league participation requirements, end-user license agreements, and fair play policies, as well as collaborate with standing integrity initiatives in the sector.
  • Promote a regulatory framework of fair play and other integrity-related rules for esports tournaments in Belgium.
  • Issue opinions, recommendations and guidelines on integrity matters.
Education & Research

Education & Research

The BESF explicitly acknowledges the importance of education within esports and vice versa. Under the motto “Bring education to esports and esports to education”, the Education & Research pillar engages in the following activities:

  • Research the benefits of esports in education by partnering with research programs, colleges and universities.
  • Assist schools, colleges and universities in implementing academic programs on gaming and esports.
  • Assist schools, colleges and universities in the organization of their own tournaments.
Institutional Relations

Institutional Relations

Establishing partnerships and relations between different like-minded organizations as well as with government bodies is crucial for the development of the Belgian esports ecosystem and the esports sector in general. There is a growing need for collaboration between all involved actors to accelerate the industry’s progress.

The Institutional Relations pillar aims at fostering these relationships by providing a forum for the different stakeholders to connect.
